Madoka Wada

Born in Yokohama, Japan, Madoka Wada lives and works in Arizona. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interactive Art at Maryland Institute College of Art in 2018. She joined ASU’s Digital Technology MFA program to further explore interactivity via DIY technologies in 2019. Starting from a background in mural creation and multi-layered intersectionality, her work shifted to incorporate new media, which enables viewers and participants to engage her art radically and to become a part of it. She has continually worked to enlarge the conversations that are possible through her artwork. Her work draws on her own and others’ multicultural backgrounds, interactivity including whole-body engagement, and incorporation of media ranging from traditional feminine crafts to embedded microcontrollers. She will continue to embrace the challenges of combining these elements to create magic with others.
